Throughout the programme, you will explore key areas including professionalism and dual professionalism, evidence-based practice, curriculum design and planning, subject specialist pedagogy, classroom management and inclusive learning environments, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, safeguarding responsibilities, initial and diagnostic assessment, effective communication and collaborative working, and the application of learning theories and contemporary pedagogical models.
What's in it for you?
Completing the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE & Skills) provides you with a nationally recognised professional qualification that replaces the former Diploma in Education and Training (DET). It is the current standard qualification for teachers working in the Further Education and Skills sector and confirms your professional competence as an educator.
Successful completion of the programme also enables you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, supporting your professional recognition and opening up further teaching opportunities across the sector. This qualification strengthens your professional standing and demonstrates your commitment to high-quality teaching practice.
The diploma supports clear career progression pathways, including opportunities to move into leadership roles, curriculum development, subject specialist or advanced practitioner positions, and progression into higher education. It equips you with the knowledge, confidence and professional credibility needed to advance within education and training settings.
Throughout the course, you will develop contemporary teaching expertise aligned with current sector expectations. You will strengthen your subject-specific pedagogy, enhance your digital competence, build confidence in inclusive practice, deepen your safeguarding knowledge, and develop the ability to apply evidence-based practice effectively in your teaching. This qualification is not just about gaining a certificate; it is about developing your professional identity as a skilled, reflective and confident educator.
